Rameen Talesh, Ed.D.

Dean of Students and
Assistant Vice Chancellor, Student Life & Leadership

Rameen joined the Student Life & Leadership (formerly known as Office of the Dean of Students) family in October 2006. As the Dean of Students and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life & Leadership, Rameen oversees a variety of departments in Student Life & Leadership including Campus Organizations, Veteran Services, International Center, Cross-Cultural Center, Greek Life, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center and New Student Programs. He is the Program Director for the Administrative Intern Program, chairs the All-University leadership Conference and supervises the Passport to Leadership Program. He is committed to student learning outside of the classroom and is in constant contact with outstanding future leaders. "It is exciting to be a part of the learning process in some intentional ways, either through teaching a class or mentoring student leaders."

In 2008-09, Rameen worked on initiatives for Civic and Community Engagement as well as the development of the Core Leadership Competencies for UC Irvine students. Recently, he co-authored an article published in a book Student Engagement in Higher Education on Engaging Racial Ethnic Minority Students on Predominately White Classroom Environments. Rameen has also presented on his doctoral dissertation, The Clery Act: Leadership Perspective from Senior Student Affairs Officer at NASPA Regional Conference.

Rameen enjoys working with the Student Life & Leadership family because of the great spirit throughout the office. “The educators I work with are professional, committed to student learning and enjoy their work- which makes the job both rewarding and fun. We are a young campus and with youth comes a nimbleness to be creative and make a difference, our students are a major part of that experience creating the campus culture.”

Rameen received his Doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education. He earned his Masters degree in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge and his Bachelors degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to this appointment he worked as the Director of Middle Earth Housing at UC Irvine. He has worked in Student Affairs Administration at both public and private institutions including UC Riverside, CSU Northridge, and Occidental College.

Rameen was actively involved while being a student at UC Irvine as an Orientation leader, Student Development Intern, UCDC Intern, Bookstore employee, Resident Advisor as well as participating in Greek Life. In his free time, Rameen enjoys playing intramural basketball and coaching his son’s youth soccer and basketball teams.
